Next Sunday, a “refurbished” Getafe will take on the UEFA Europa League finalist Sevilla at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez for round 37 of Liga BBVA on a match of paramount important for the Azulones to continue their quest against relegation.
After last weekend’s last minute draw at Camp Nou, Getafe will need to continue their recovery at the bottom of the table and a win against Sevilla would certainly give them plenty more room to breath on a battle that promises to be complicated between five teams in danger of being relegated. After the match against Barcelona, Getafe’s Romanian head coach (Cosmin Contra) highlighted the fighting spirit and the bravery of his players and assured that with such attitude, the team will grant a place at the Spanish football top tier next season.
The match against Sevilla will be far from easy; nevertheless, since the Sevillanos will be playing the UEFA Europa League final next Wednesday with Benfica, this might be positive for Getafe, since Unai Emery will certainly exempt some of his best players from the clash against Los Azulones.
For next Sunday’s match, Cosmin Contra will not be able to count on the Spanish forward Adrián Colunga, who got himself injured against Barcelona last weekend, while he is not yet certain if Miguel Angel Moya and Diego Castro will be ready for the match, since they are still recovering from their respective injuries.
As for Sevilla, next weekend’s match against Getafe does not have any special meaning. The Andalusian side are focused on the UEFA Europa League final that will take place next Wednesday (14th May) and after seeing their chances of playing at the Champions League next season completely shredded last weekend, there is not much left for Sevilla at Liga BBVA.
For the match against Getafe, Unai Emery will still not be able to count on the talented Russian winger Denis Cheryshev and on the Uruguayan midfielder Sebastián Cristóforo, both sidelined due to long term injuries.
When both sides met at Sánchez Pizjuan last January, the Andalusian team trashed Getafe 3-0 thanks to goals from Carlos Bacca, Vitolo and Rakitic. Next Sunday, the match’s outcome will certainly be different and although there is no time to think about vengeance, Getafe will surely do their best to defeat a Sevilla side “distracted” with the UEFA Europa League final.
