Next Monday, Real Sociedad will entertain an inconsistent Granada at Anoeta for round 36 of Liga BBVA on a very important match for both sides, but for fairly different reasons.
Real Sociedad gave Real Bétis the final blow that condemned Bétis to relegation this season. The Txuri-urdin players now seem to be conformed with their presence at the UEFA Europa League next season, after their somewhat “unsuccessful” experience at the Champions League this term. In a recent interview, Sergio Canales and Iñigo Martínez highlighted the importance of a competitions such as the UEFA Europa League and waved off the fact that Real Sociedad failed to grant a place at the Champions League next term.
After their win against Real Bétis and Sevilla’s defeat at Bilbao, Real Sociedad once again kindled their hopes of catching the Andalusian side at the 5th place of the table and due to that they will certainly do everything within their grasp to claim the three points against Granada next Monday.
For the match against Granada, Jagoba Arrasate is not yet certain if he will be able to count on the Spanish defender Ion Ansotegi, who is still recovering from a recent injury.
As for Granada, next Monday’s match will be of paramount importance, especially after their heavy home defeat last round by the hands of Rayo Vallecano. At the end of the match and despite the harsh result, Granada’s head coach (Lucas Alcaraz) was quite confident that the team will be able to bounce back from such a bad result.
The Nazaríes have 37 points in La Liga so far and they are only four points above the relegation line. A defeat at Anoeta next Monday could turn out to be disastrous for them, particularly if their closest contenders manage to win their respective matches.
For the match against Real Sociedad, Granada’s manager Lucas Alcaraz will not be able to count on the Algerian midfielder Yacine Brahimi, who was sent off last weekend, and on the Colombian defender Jeison Murillo, who is currently sidelined due to injury.
When both sides met at Los Cármenes back in December, Real Sociedad put up a quality performance and grabbed a solid 3-1 win thanks to goals from the usual suspects: Carlos Vela and Antoine Griezmann. Next Monday’s match might have a similar outcome if Granada fails to mentally recover from last weekend’s major upset.
