Next Saturday, Real Sociedad will entertain the all-powerful Real Madrid at Anoeta for round 32 of Liga BBVA. Since January, the Basque team’s campaign is being marked by some inconsistency with three defeats over the last month.

Last weekend, Real Sociedad, that are currently in the 5th place of table, didn’t manage to get anything better than a draw on their trip to El Sadar and closed their monthly accounts with just seven points in six matches. Jagoba Arrasate produced some changes in the team and left Griezmann, Pardo and Canales in the bench, thus restraining some of the creativity of his side. Next Saturday, the Basque head coach will probably not be able to count on Xabi Prieto and Markel Bergara that are not yet fully recovered from their respective injuries.

Real Madrid’s last two weeks were somewhat disappointing. Losing at home at the hands of their all-time rivals and being defeated at Andalusia by a confident Sevilla opened some breaches in a team that had looked rock solid up until that moment. Los Blancos, however, seem to have managed to bounce back, trashing Rayo Vallecano at Santiago Bernabéu last Saturday. Carlo Ancelotti returned to his usual 4-2-3-1 flexible style and it is likely that he maintains that system against Real Sociedad.

For next Saturday’s match, the Italian head coach will not have Sami Khedira, Arbeloa and Jesé available to play, since these players are sidelined due to injury.

When both teams met last November at Madrid, the home side completely dominated the Basque team on a match that culminated in a solid 5-1 win. Next Sunday, things might be different nevertheless, especially if one considers Real Sociedad’s performances when playing home. The Basque has only lost twice at Anoeta this season (interestingly enough, against two Madrid sides - Atlético and Rayo), but they will certainly do everything within their grasp to defeat Real Madrid.
