Next Sunday, 5th of October 2014, the impressive Celta de Vigo will measure forces with the also impressive Villarreal team at Los Balaídos for round seven of the Spanish Liga BBVA, on a match where the home side will certainly do everything within their grasp to carry with the undefeated run they have been enjoying so far.
After Luis Enrique’s departure to Barcelona during the Summer, some predicted that the excellent season Celta de Vigo had last term would not be repeated this year, but apparently they were wrong, at least judging from the team’s posture and performances so far. After six La Liga matches, Toto Berizzo’s Celta remains unbeaten and some of their recent displays were a delight to sore eyes, as the team looks even more consistent than they were last season.
Last Friday, Los Celestes experienced some difficulties in overcoming an organized Elche side at Martinez Valero. After several chances to score, Celta only managed to score the winning goal in the dying moments of the match by the hand of the usual suspect, Nolito. Former Barcelona B’s winger received a superb pass from the Danish international Krohn-Dehli and had no difficulty in passing the ball through Manu Herrera to the bottom of Eche’s net.
Toto Berizzo promoted several changes in his team, without nevertheless abandoning his usual 4-3-3 system, and the team responded well.
For the difficult and demanding clash against Villarreal, Berizzo will not be able to count on the Argentinean international Augusto Fernandez and Borja Oubina, both sidelined due to injury, and he is not yet certain if Krohn-Dehli will recover in time for the match.
As for Villarreal, the match at Los Balaídos arrives after the team’s second defeat of the season at La Liga. The Yellow Submarine was “sunk” by an inspired Real Madrid at El Madrigal last weekend, although they did make a fairly good image of themselves in that match.
Last Thursday, however, Marcelino Toral’s boys returned to wins as they smashed Apollon by 4-0 at an UEFA Europa League home match, a result that will certainly increase the confidence levels of the team at this particular time of the season.
When both sides met at Los Balaídos last term, the match ended in a goalless draw with none of the teams able to disrupt their opponent’s structured defensive wall. Next Sunday nevertheless, things might be different, since one will witness a match between two of the best team’s at La Liga currently and although Celta might enjoy from slight a favouritism, the final outcome is truly unpredictable.
