Next Monday, 15th of December 2014, a Deportivo La Coruña, desperate for points, will measure forces with Elche at Riazor for round 15 of the Spanish Liga BBVA, on a match of the utmost importance for both parts, since they currently occupy the last two places of La Liga’s table with the same amount of points.

The season that marks the return of Depor to the Spanish football top tier is not being particularly impressive for the Galician historical team. Deportivo are currently second from the bottom with just two wins in 14 matches, one of them particularly impressive over the rejuvenated Valencia. Such win however wasn’t enough to motivate Victor Fernández’s boys, as they failed to win their last six matches.

Last weekend, Depor might consider themselves quite unlucky after their home defeat against Málaga. The Galician team missed a penalty in the early minutes of the match and had more ball possession and goal chances than their opponents, but in the end they didn’t find a way to react to Darder’s first-half goal.

The upcoming match against Elche, who are currently at the bottom of the table, is of paramount significance for Depor and at the same time poses an excellent opportunity for them to return to wins against a team that is also undergoing the same type of problems they are. For that particular match, the Zaragoza born manager, Victor Fernández, will probably not be able to rely on the contribution of Lucas, who is currently sidelined due to injury.

As for Elche, the current season is also being a major disappointment, as the team keeps struggling at the bottom of the table. With also just two wins from 14 matches, Elche are currently on a poor streak of results without a single win over the last five matches and last weekend they conceded their eighth defeat of the season against the Spanish champions, Atlético Madrid. The Fran Escriba’s boys never found a way to counter the Colchoneros superiority and ended up by losing the match 2-0.

For his team’s visit to Riazor, Fran Escriba is not yet certain if he will be able to count on Jimenez, Lomban, Herrera and Mudingayi, all of them currently sidelined due to injury.

Since they are playing home, one might consider Deportivo as favourites for next Monday’s clash, nevertheless, it will certainly be a very close match with an unpredictable result.
