Next Saturday, 13th of December 2014, a highly motivated Barcelona will travel to the outskirts of Madrid to go head-to-head with Getafe at Coliseum Alfonso Perez for round 15 of the Spanish Liga BBVA, on a match where the visitors cannot allow any more slipups if they want to keep track of Real Madrid at the top the table.
Barcelona’s motivation levels are definitely sky high, especially after their win over PSG last Wednesday’s night at Camp Nou for the UEFA Champions League’s final group stage match. The former European champions proved that they are fully recovered from the less impressive streak of results that swept the team a few weeks ago and, at the same time, passed a strong message to Real Madrid: that they will give them “hell” in La Liga’s title quest.
Last weekend, Barcelona experienced no major difficulties to overcome their neighbours and rivals of Espanyol at Camp Nou and, although the visitors opened the score thanks to an early goal from Sergio Garcia, Barça, led by an insurmountable Leo Messi, managed to bounce back and won the match by a staggering 5-1. The quality of Barcelona’s game seems more tangible as the matches go by, especially in the front where Suárez and Neymar appear to be fully synchronized with Messi.
Barça’s upcoming match at Getafe will most certainly be far from easy, as the Madrid team tends to be particularly dangerous when playing at home against the Spanish top teams. Atlético Madrid for example had to dig deep in order to snatch a narrow 1-0 win at Coliseum Alfonso Perez almost one month ago and things will surely not be different for Luis Enrique’s boys.
For that particular clash, the Asturian manager will still not be able to rely on the contribution of the Belgian defender Vermaelen, who remains sidelined due to injury and he is also not certain if Rafinha will be 100% fit for the match.
As for Getafe, the Madrid team has been fairly inconsistent so far this season and they are currently undergoing a somewhat negative period, without single win over the last four matches. Cosmin Contra, who saved the Azulones from an almost certain relegation last season, has not yet managed to transform the Coliseum Alfonso Perez into the team’s stronghold, as Getafe have only won twice at home so far in this campaign.
For the complicated clash against Barcelona, the Romanian manager will not count with Hinestroza who is currently suspended and he is also not certain if Diawara, Escudero and Lago will recover in time for the match.
To sum things up, Barcelona are firm favourites for the upcoming clash, but they surely be forced to put in some extra effort in order to grant the three points from their visit to Madrid.
