Next Saturday, 23rd of May 2015, the current UEFA Europa League holders, Sevilla, will visit La Rosaleda to measure forces with their neighbours of Málaga for the last round of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
Sevilla’s dream of granting a place at the UEFA Champions League next season has not yet faded away, but their task is somewhat Herculean. After their narrow home win against Almeria last weekend (a match during which the visitors caught Sevilla by surprise during the first-half) and after Valencia’s home draw with Celta de Vigo, the Sevillistas don’t just depend on themselves to secure a spot at the Champions League qualifying round next term. Unai Emery’s boys need to win their respective match and hope for Valencia to slip-up during their difficult travel to Almeria, where they will face a team that is currently relegation-threatened.
This has, once again, been a long season for Sevilla, who find themselves again on the verge of winning the UEFA Europa League, as they will face the super surprising Dnipro at Warsaw for the tournament final in the end of May.
The upcoming match will definitely not be easy for Sevilla, who have recently started to show some signs of fatigue due to the huge amount of matches in which they’ve taken part so far this season. Málaga are a fairly complicated team, especially when playing at home, and they will surely force Sevilla to some hard work next Saturday.
As for Málaga, there is not much for Los Boquerones to play for, except for the glory and for the possibility of reaching Athletic in the seventh place of La Liga’s table.
Málaga are probably not going through the best of moments as they have only managed to win one of their last five matches, against Almeria one week ago.
The Andalusian team have shown huge signs of inconsistency throughout the season and some of their overall performances have left something to be desired. Málaga achieved the fantastic deed of defeating Barcelona at Camp Nou but were defeated six times in ten matches after that particular clash.
