Next Monday, 4th of May 2015, a motivated Celta de Vigo will travel to Andalusia to measure forces with a relegation threatened Almeria at Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos for round 35 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
After being defeated by Real Madrid at Los Balaídos last Sunday, a match that the Galician team probably deserved to win, Celta managed to return to wins against Málaga in the middle of the week. A late goal from the usual suspect Nolito after a superbly built team play, granted Celta the three points and reignited their dreams of clinching a place in the league table that could grant them European football next season.
Los Celestes have only lost one of their last five matches (against Real Madrid), a streak that includes an excellent and memorable win by 6-1 over Rayo Vallecano at Los Balaídos in the beginning of last month.
The departure of Luis Enrique to Barcelona last Summer brought in a new head coach, Eduardo Berizzo, a man that served Celta as a player back in his days and who has now managed to maintain or even improve the team’s quality standards from last season.
The upcoming clash at Andalusia will definitely not be easy one, especially if we have in mind that their opponents are on a complicated situation down in the table, just two points above the relegation line. But if Celta still want to nurture their dream of European football next season, they cannot allow any more slip-ups until the end of the season.
As for Almeria, the Andalusian team has been fairly inconsistent throughout the season and now find themselves in a particularly dangerous situation at the second part of the table.
Their new manager, Sergi Barjuan, brought some new ideas to the Rojiblancos, but now it is probably late to test new things as they cannot allow to lose any more points in the remaining matches of the season.
After defeating Eibar at home last weekend, Almeria didn’t have enough strength to upset the all-powerful Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu and ended up by losing the match 3-0.
Regardless of Almeria’s recent improvements, “Toto” Berizzo’s Celta are a fairly more motivated and solid team and are favourites for next Monday’s match at Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos.
