Next Monday, 27th of April, the mighty Valencia will measure forces with a Granada team desperate for points at the emblematic Mestalla Stadium for round 33 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
After more than two months without being beaten for domestic competitions, Valencia experienced once again the sour taste of defeat when they visited Camp Nou last weekend, but they weren’t by any means worse than their hosts, Barcelona. An early goal from Luis Suarez pinched Valencia’s players, who reacted in great style and pushed Barça against the ropes on several different occasions. Los Che also missed a penalty kick early in the match, something that could have changed the course of the match entirely. Valencia did good, especially during the first 45’ minutes, when they had several chances to score but were never able to overcome the Catalan netminder, Claudio Bravo.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s men were brave enough to look Barça in the eye at such a complicated environment as Camp Nou and have only lowered their arms when Leo Messi netted in the second goal of the Catalan team on the last seconds of the match.
Valencia are by far one of the best teams of La Liga and they are still hoping to grant a place on the UEFA Champions League next season without having to take part in the always complicated playoff stage.
The upcoming match against Granada will probably not be a very complicated one, especially if we have in mind Granada’s recent form. Regardless of that and given that the Andalusian team needs desperately to collect some points, things might become complicated if Los Che fail to net in an early goal.
As for Granada, the Nazaries are definitely not having the best of seasons so far and they are currently second from bottom, three points behind Almeria, who are the first team above the relegation line. Granada’s managerial change didn’t cause an instant impact, although it is true that the Andalusia team has only lost one of their last three matches, precisely against their neighbours and rivals of Almeria three weeks ago.
Despite having lost their La Liga’s match last weekend, Valencia are firm favourites to win the upcoming match against a Granada team that currently does not seem to have quality enough to defeat such a well organized team as Los Che.
