Next Tuesday, 24th of November 2015, a somewhat fragilized Arsenal will measure forces with the Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb at the Emirates Stadium for the fifth match of the UEFA Champions League Group Stage. After being hammered by the all-powerful Bayern Munich in the last round of the tournament, Arsenal have not yet managed to return to wins.
The Gunners weren’t able to get anything better than a draw from the North London derby against Tottenham early this month and did even worse when they faced West Brom at The Hawthorns last weekend. Arsene Wenger’s men lost the match by 2-1, scored an own goal and missed a penalty kick five minutes before the end of the game.
Arsenal are currently on an extremely complicated situation at the UEFA Champions League and a defeat or even a draw against Dinamo Zagreb next Tuesday will definitely throw them out of the competition. Just three points from four matches is definitely a poor record for a team such as Arsenal and, if they lose to the Croatian team next time out, they will drop to the last place of the group.
For the upcoming do or die match against Dinamo Zagreb, Arsene Wenger will not be able to rely on the contribution of Ramsey, Rosicky, Walcott, Wilshere, Welbeck and Oxlade-Chamberlain, all currently sidelined due to injury.
As for Dinamo Zagreb, the Croatian champions are going through an extremely complicated period after their president, Zdravko Mamic, was once again arrested early this week for allegedly inflicting financial damage to the club through dubious transfers.
After losing to Bayern Munich back in September, Dinamo embarked on a negative streak of results with just four wins in nine competitive matches. The Croatian team is at the bottom of their Champions League group but a win against Arsenal might open them the UEFA Europa League’s door as their possibilities of reaching the last 16 at the current tournament have considerably decreased after their last round’s defeat against Olympiakos.
For their next important outing, Zoran Mamic will not be able to count on Antolic and Schildenfeld, who are both currently sidelined with a thigh injury.
