Next Tuesday, 8th of March 2016, a motivated Real Madrid will measure forces with a mighty AS Roma at Santiago Bernabéu for the second-leg of the UEFA Champions League 1/8 finals.
After a somewhat shaky performance against Levante in the middle of the week, Real Madrid have finally managed to pull rank and clawed a fantastic win over Celta de Vigo at Santiago Bernabéu on Saturday. The first-half wasn’t easy with the Galician team controlling the match in the first 25 minutes. Real Madrid, however, kept themselves together and went to half-time leading by 1-0 thanks to a last minute goal by Pepe.
The second-half was a completely different story with Cristiano Ronaldo leading his team to an historical 7-1 win over a hopeless Celta de Vigo, who still tried to get back in the match when Iago Aspas netted a splendid goal on minute 62. Real Madrid’s second half was almost flawless and Cristiano Ronaldo’s four goals catapulted them to their 18th win in 28 league matches so far this season.
For next Tuesday’s second-leg match against AS Roma, Zinedine Zidane will still not be able to rely on the services of his fellow countryman, Karim Benzema, who remains sidelined due to injury. Luka Modric, on the other hand, who missed last weekend’s match due to an ankle injury, will probably return for his team’s next outing.
As for AS Roma, after being defeated by Real Madrid on the first-leg of the UEFA Champions League and after all the controversy around Francesco Totti’s statements, the Italian team managed to pull rank and they are currently on a splendid streak of three consecutive wins.
After smashing Palermo at Stadio Olimpico by 4-0 and after a difficult but deserved 3-1 win at Empoli, Luciano Spalletti’s AS Roma clawed a spectacular 4-1 win over Paulo Sousa’s powerful Fiorentina last time out.
For next Tuesday’s clash at Madrid, the experienced Italian manager will not be able to rely on the services of one of the team’s charismatic captains, Danielle De Rossi, who remains sidelined due to injury. Antonio Rüdiger and Norbert Gyomber will also miss out there because of the same reason.
