Next Saturday, 20th of June 2015, the two-time World Champions Argentina will measure forces with the fragile Jamaican team at Estadio Sausalito in Viña del Mar for the final match of Group B of Copa America.
Argentina had to dig very deep to overcome a well organized Uruguay in the derby of America aka El Clasico last Wednesday. Oscar Tabarez mounted a solid counter-attack based strategy that caused La Albiceleste plenty of problems throughout the entire match. After a very tight first-half, Argentina finally managed to break the deadlock ten minutes after the break, when Sergio Aguero brought home a fine cross from his Manchester City partner, Pablo Zabaleta.
Uruguay allowed Argentina to have longer periods of time of ball possession and focused instead of making the most out of the great deal of goal chances they had. Argentina’s overall defensive percentage was again far from impressive, as they allowed the Uruguayan players to place more than 14 shots on and off goal.
Argentina are definitely a different team under the command of Gerardo “Tata” Martino and their game style is far more interesting than the one they have presented in Brazil’s World Cup last Summer. Nevertheless, the team is still missing that extra something they used to have about thirty years ago, when Maradona, Burruchaga, Valdano and their peers led the team to their last World Cup glory in Mexico in 1986.
The upcoming match against Jamaica will probably not be a very complicated one, as the Central American team has already shown their apparently large limitations in the tournament so far.
As for Jamaica, they haven’t been having the time of their lives so far in the competition and they have already lost all hope of walking through to the next round of the tournament. With two defeats over the same number of matches, Jamaica have in a way proved to be the most fragile team of this edition of Copa America, but the match against Argentina might give them an extra boost of motivation, allowing The Reggae Boyz to cause La Albiceleste a major upset just for the sake of it.
