Next Sunday, 14th of June 2015, the all-powerful Brazil will measure forces with an inconsistent Peru at Estadio Municipal Germán Becker in Temuco for the second match of Copa America 2015 Group C.
Fortunately for Brazil, the era of Scolari ended right after their somewhat mediocre performances at the World Cup last Summer. The return of the former international midfielder Dunga to the helm of the team was a breath of fresh air to the Canarinha. Brazil are currently on a fantastic streak of nine consecutive wins over the same respective amount of matches and the quality level of their performances increased considerably.
Back on Sunday, on what was their last preparation match before the Copa America, Brazil, even without their brightest star, Neymar, overcame Mexico by 2-0 thanks to one goal from Liverpool’s man Coutinho and another one from Diego Tardelli. Mexico caused some problems to Brazil but the five-time World champions managed to control the match, especially given their performance during the first-half.
Brazil are firm favourites to win the tournament but a bad start against Peru could cause them some problems for their future matches, since they will have to measure forces with Colombia, who also start out as favourites for lifting the trophy.
As for Peru, Los Incas are definitely not going through a very positive period and this year they still have not managed to win a single match. After failing to secure a place at the World Cup last Summer, Peru’s football association felt that it was time to start a new project and recruited the experienced Argentinean manager Ricardo Gareca. The former Velez Sarsfield and Palmeiras head coach has, nevertheless, a very complicated task on his hands, which is to bring back Peru’s good old days to a somewhat disheartened team that lacks a player such their all-time star Teofilo Cubillas to carry the rest of the team on his back.
Last week, Peru conceded a 1-1 draw against Mexico on a match where they were in fact somewhat superior.
