Next Friday, 26th of June 2015, the tournament underdogs, Bolivia, will measure forces with a refurbished and well organized Peru at Estadio Municipal German Becker in Temuco for the second match of Copa America 2015 Quarter-finals.
Bolivia’s last match against the tournament hosts, Chile, has surely refrained their enthusiasm a little bit. La Verde succumbed at the hands of Jorge Sampaoli’s Chile in their last group match but still managed to secure a place in the next stage of the tournament, leaving Ecuador and Mexico behind. Bolivia’s campaign in Copa America had, until the match against the South American La Roja, countered all the odds as the team showed an unparalleled bravery that granted them a win over a disheartened Ecuador and a goalless draw against a “reserve” Mexican side.
Bolivia have an interesting set of players and usually rely their game on the versatility and work rate of their forward line, led by the football journeyman Marcelo Moreno. There are some other interesting players that deserve our attention, such as 28 year old forward Ricardo Pedriel, Göteborg’s midfielder Martin Smedberg and even their goalkeeper Romel Quinonez, who has shown so far some quality skills despite being only 22 years old.
Bolivia managed to avoid teams such as Brazil and Colombia in the Quarter-finals stage, but their next opponents, Peru, are anything but an easy bone to chew and they will certainly put La Verde through hell in next Friday’s match.
As for Peru, Los Incas have been having a very decent stint at Copa America so far and their recent draw against one of the tournament’s favourites, Colombia, reveals that Ricardo Gareca has been conducting a very good work ever since he took the helm of the team back in February. “El Flaco” changed several things in the team’s game and they now present themselves in a sort of 4-4-1-1 Italian style with a second striker lurking behind the centre forward in an attempt to confuse the opponent’s defensive line.
Peru showed great character during their recent match against Colombia and forced Los Cafeteros to a draw that almost compromised their progression in the tournament.
