Next Thursday, 25th of June 2015, the tournament hosts Chile will measure forces with the current trophy holders, Uruguay, at the emblematic Estadio Nacional in Santiago for the first match of Copa America Quarter-finals’ round.
In their last group match, Chile showed no mercy on Bolivia as they completely trashed by 5-0. The home side gave the mighty Bolivian team no time to adapt themselves to the match as they started with their attacking avalanche soon after the kick-off time. The all-round midfielder Charles Aranguiz opened the score on the 3rd minute of the match and Arsenal’s superstar Alexis Sanchez netted in the second one seven minutes before half-time. Soon after the break, Chile’s head coach Jorge Sampaoli performed some changes in the team, allowing both Sanchez and Vidal to rest, but the South American La Roja continued to control the match at their own will. Chile had an impressive ball possession percentage (67%) and placed two hands full of shots on goal. Sampaoli’s mechanized game transformed Chile into a dangerous threat to all the opponents and judging from what we have witnessed so far, they have everything in their favour to overcome Uruguay and proceed to next stage of the tournament.
As for Uruguay, the current Copa America champions are far from being at full speed, as their overall performances have been nothing other than bland in every single previous match they took part in. Uruguay’s recent clash with Paraguay was an unbelievably boring and tedious match with both teams dragging themselves around the pitch until the very last minute.
Oscar Tabarez needs to rally his troops if he wants to take anything positive from the match against the tournament hosts, Chile, otherwise, his team will surely be kicked out of the competition.
Uruguay have only won one match in the tournament so far: it was their opening clash against a fragile Jamaican side, but even on that particular day, their overall performance have been far from impressive.
