Next Wednesday, 29th of April 2015, the current La Liga champions, Atlético Madrid, will travel to Comunidad Valenciana to measure forces with Villarreal at El Madrigal for round 34 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
After being eliminated from the UEFA Champions League at the hands of their eternal rivals Real Madrid last week, Atlético managed to bounce back and returned to wins last Saturday against Elche. Los Colchoneros were the best team for large periods of the match, but only managed to score after the break. The usual suspect, Antoine Griezmann, opened the score for the current La Liga champions and from that moment onwards, Elche’s resistance ended abruptly. The Frenchman, who came in from Real Sociedad last Summer and who ended up scoring another goal twenty minutes after the first one, has been enjoying a fantastic moment as he have scored four goals in the last two league matches.
Atlético’s upcoming match at Villarreal will surely be far from easy, and although their next opponents are not going through a particularly inspired moment recently, it is never easy to win at El Madrigal.
As for Villarreal, after an impressive first-half of the season, El Submarino Amarillo has been slowly sinking in both domestic and international competitions. Villarreal were eliminated from the UEFA Europa League by Sevilla and from the Copa del Rey at the hands of the all-powerful Barcelona last month, something that has definitely created a negative effect on Marcelino Toral’s team.
Villarreal were, not long ago, one of the best teams of the current La Liga’s edition but now they seem to have been overcome by the fatigue created by the huge amount of matches the team had to took part in this season.
Regardless of Villarreal’s recent poor moment (they failed to win any of their last nine official matches), Atlético, who are definitely favourites to win the match, will need to work extra hard in order to take anything positive from their next Wednesday’s travel to El Madrigal.
