Next Wednesday, 4th of November 2015, the all-powerful Bayern Munich will measure forces with Arsenal at the beautiful Allianz Arena for the fourth match of the UEFA Champions League Group Stage.
After their unexpected defeat at the Emirates Stadium, Bayern Munich pulled rank and returned to wins four days later, when they hosted FC Köln for Round 10 of Bundesliga. Pep Guardiola’s men have certainly learned from their mistakes after their London’s match and will surely take extra care in their next outing.
Last week, the Bavarian team easily overcame VfL Wolfsburg for the DFB Pokal (German Cup), thanks to top class performances by Douglas Costa, Thomas Müller and David Alaba. Three days later, however, the German champions experienced some unexpected difficulty during their travel to Frankfurt, where they’ve failed to get anything better than a goalless draw against Eintracht Frankfurt. Bayern Munich had an apparent control of the match with 68% of ball possession and two hands full of goal attempts, but in the end they failed to score a single goal. It was the first time this happened to Bayern Munich in domestic competitions after they have already scored 33 goals in 11 matches so far.
Mario Götze, Frank Ribery and Sebastian Rode will all miss next Wednesday’s fixtures since they are still recovering from their respective injuries.
As for Arsenal, after their splendid performance against the German champions two weeks ago, the Gunners, in a way, returned to their usual inconsistency. Arsenal were eliminated from the Capital One Cup at the expenses of an extremely inspired Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough last week after the losing the match by 3-0. Carlos Carvalhal’s mighty warriors outclassed the Gunners and showed that sometimes the gap between first and second tier sides are not as big as one might think.
Arsenal, however, managed to put up a strong comeback with an important win over Swansea at Wales last Saturday. The flamboyant Costa Rican winger netted his first goal ever for Arsenal in his first league appearance this season.
Arsene Wenger will certainly have plenty of difficulty to mount his strategy for the upcoming match given Arsenal’s huge list of injured players. Oxdale-Chamberlain, Ospina, Wilshere, Ramsey, Welbeck and Walcott are currently sidelined due to injury and will surely not be part of French manager’s plans next time out.
