Next Tuesday, 3rd of November 2015, an extremely inconsistent Manchester United will measure forces with the Russian Premier League leaders CSKA Moscow at the emblematic Old Trafford for the fourth match of the UEFA Champions League Group Stage.
The last days of October were particularly negative for Manchester United, who have failed to win any of their last four matches. After being eliminated from the Capital One Cup at the expenses of the second tier side, Middlesbrough FC, the Red Devils failed to get anything better than a goalless draw from their travel to Selhurst Park last Saturday. Louis Van Gaal’s men had an apparent control of the match with a fair share of ball possession percentage, but it was the home side who had more chances to score during the entire match.
United have only scored one single goal in their last four fixtures, precisely against their upcoming opponents, CSKA Moscow. The Red Devils might, in a way, consider themselves lucky to have left Russia with a point in their bags two weeks ago, but now they have the opportunity to make amends by returning to wins in front of their highly enthusiastic supporters.
The newcomer Memphis Depay is in doubt for next Tuesday’s match, while Antonio Valencia, Luke Shaw and Paddy McNair, all sidelined due to injury, will surely miss United’s next outing.
As for CSKA Moscow, the Russian Premier League leaders are currently going through a particularly good moment and will surely try to upset Manchester United next Tuesday.
The Armeitsy are yet to be defeated for domestic competitions and have managed to extend their lead last weekend after their closest contenders, FC Zenit and Lokomotiv Moscow, ended up by losing points in their respective matches.
Later last week, in opposition to what happened to Manchester United, Leonid Slutsky’s men have also granted a place in the Russian Cup Quarter-finals, after overcoming FC Ural at Moscow by 2-1.
The experienced Russian centre back Vasili Berezutski is in doubt for the travel to Manchester after having sustained a thigh injury a few ago. Bibras Natkho, on the other hand, is fully recovered from a concussion and will certainly be part of Leonid Slutsky’s plans next time out.
