Next Tuesday, 8th of December 2015, Manchester United will travel to Lower Saxony in Germany to measure forces with VfL Wolfsburg at Volkswagen Arena for the last match of the UEFA Champions League Group Stage.
Manchester United have only won three of their last ten competitive matches but next Tuesday they will need to be fully focused on their job, as they risk being eliminated from the UEFA Champions. If the Red Devils fail to win their match and PSV manage to snatch the three points against CSKA Moscow, the English team will be automatically out of the competition and will drop to the UEFA Europa League.
In their last Champions League outing, United didn’t manage to get anything better than a goalless draw against PSV Eindhoven and such result left them in a perilous situation in their group. The Red Devils have only won two of their five Champions League matches so far this season and their defeat in Eindhoven might prove to be of the utmost importance for their future in the competition.
Last weekend, Manchester United were held to a draw by West Ham at Old Trafford and were overrun by Arsenal in the English Premier League table. Despite having the best defensive line of the tournament, the Red Devils have already conceded five draws in 15 matches so far this season and now they find themselves in 4th place of the table with the same points of their city rivals Manchester City.
Ander Herrera, Phil Jones, Antonio Valencia, Luke Shaw and Rojo will all miss out there due to their respective injuries, while Wayne Rooney is still in doubt for the big match.
As for VfL Wolfsburg, the German team is not having the best of times at Bundesliga so far this season and currently occupy the fifth place of the table, with just 25 points from 15 matches.
Last weekend, Die Wölfe were overcome at home by Borussia Dortmund on a thrilling match that was only decided on minute 93, when Kagawa nodded affirmatively to a Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s superb assist and sealed the visitors’ second goal.
At the Champions League, VfL Wolfsburg have increased their chances of granting a place in the next stage of the competition after their win at Moscow late last month. A top notch performance from former Chelsea’s man André Schürrle granted them the three points on that very cold night at Arena Khimki.
A defeat against Manchester United next time out might prove to be extremely nephastic for the German, as it might mean that they are out of the of the Champions League, that is if PSV overcome a fragilized CSKA Moscow in the other match.
