Olympique de Marseille have endured a miserable Ligue 1 season so far and would be hoping for a positive result when they take on FC Lorient on Sunday.

Marseille fans would be wondering what has gone wrong with their team this season. After finishing last season on fourth position, Les Phoceens have been miserable and below average this time around. At the end of Gameweek nine, one of the most successful French clubs is sitting in 16th spot on the league table and they have managed to registered just a couple of wins in the process. With two wins to their name couple with 2 draws and 5 defeats already, things are not looking well for the 10 times Champions of France in the 2015-16 Ligue 1 season.

Michy Batshuayi

The Rhone giants head in this game on the back of a very poor run of form as they have failed to get maximum points from any of their last five fixture with three defeats and two draws. Their last league outing was against rivals and reigning champions, Paris Saint-Germain, where despite playing with much resilience and putting in a much improved performance, OM fell to a 2-1 defeat in the end. Zalatan Ibrahimovic was the villain of the hour for Marseille at Parc des Princes with the Sweden international successfully converting two penalties that day.

Scoring goals has not been a problem for Les Phoceens despite their low league positon. It is their defense that has left them shattered. Marseille have conceded 11 goals in nine games while scoring 14 in the process. Michy Batshuayi has been the top scorer for the club with 6 goals to his name this season and it won’t be mad to bet him to score against when his side take on Lorient this coming Sunday. FC Lorient on the other hand, have enjoyed a rather good season so far as compared to their Sunday opponents. Sylvain Ripoll’s men have notched up 14 points at the end of Gameweek 9 and are currently 9th in the league table with 4 wins to their name. Two of their games ended in a draw while Lorient failed to collect any points from three of their games this season.

Les Merlus are coming in this game on the back of a good 3-2 win over Bordeaux and would be hoping to continue with their good run of form. Benjamin Moukandjo has been the man in form for the visitors with 4 goals to his name and he would be hoping to add to his tally when the two teams square off at Stade Velodrome on October 18.
