Next Friday, 14th of August 2015, the current German champions Bayern Munich will measure forces with Hamburger SV at Allianz Arena for round 1 of the Bundesliga.
Two weeks ago, Bayern Munich once again failed to overcome a mighty and tremendously organized Wolfsburg at the DFL - Super Cup final. The match was only decided during the penalty shootout after Nicklas Bendtner’s last minute equalizer for Wolfsburg. The experienced deep-lying playmaker Xabi Alonso failed to overcome Casteels during Bayern’s second penalty and it was once again the Danish forward who netted in the decisive penalty that would allow Wolfsburg to lift the trophy.
Bayern’s team didn’t change much since the last season and the most important summer signing, Arturo Vidal, has only played for about 15 minutes against Wolfsburg. The German champions were slightly inconsistent during their pre-season matches and there are already some pundits questioning if Pep Guardiola should continue at the helm of the season for much longer.
Last weekend, Bayern granted a solid win over FC Nottingen for the DFB-Pokal and easily booked a place in the next stage of the competition. The Chilean superstar scored again from the penalty spot, thus clinching his second goal for the club since his arrival.
When Bayern entertained Hamburger SV at Allianz Arena last season, the German showed no mercy to their opponents, smashing them by a staggering 8-0.
As for Hamburger SV, after narrowly escaping relegation last term, the historical German team have not started the new season off on the right foot. In last weekend’s DFB-Pokal match, Hamburger SV was surprised at Ernst-Abbe-Sportfeld by the former GDR powerhouse Carl Zeiss Jena, who are currently in the fourth tier of German football.
After such major upset, Hamburger SV manager, Bruno Labbadia, will need to put up something very special in order to motivate and tranquilize his players before next Friday’s difficult clash against the all-powerful Bayern.
