E.Frankfurt got a 3rd win of the season away to Hannover after a winless run of 5 games threatened to drop them towards the relegation zone whilst Bayern Munich maintained their 100% record with a 10th victory of the season.
Armin Veh would’ve been very satisfied with the reaction of his players as they didn’t let a 1-0 deficit inflict them to another winless game to add to the recent run and bounced back with two quick fire goals from Marc Standera as the young German playmaker earned E.Frankfurt a first win since 12 September. Frankfurt could’ve extended the lead but were denied by Ron-Robert Zieler but the 3 points were crucial. Veh will be particularly pleased after the hammering they suffered in the previous game at home to Borussia Monchengladbach to show the character to bounce back and win will be a big confidence boost for his players. He’ll still be concerned that E.Frankfurt have kept just 1 clean sheet this season but will be delighted with the 3 points.
Bayern Munich reached a landmark 1,000th Bundesliga win as Arjen Robben scored on his return from injury in a 4-0 romp over Koln at the Allianz Arena. After 2 months out the Dutch winger opened the scoring before further goals from Arturo Vidal, Robert Lewandowski and a Thomas Muller penalty wrapped up the rout for Pep Guardiola’s side. It took Munich a while to break down a stubborn Koln defence but when they did the opportunities started to present themselves numerous times. For Guardiola it was the ideal response to losing the first game of the season against Arsenal in the Champions League and the ex-Barcelona manager would’ve been disappointed at the defeat but delighted with the response from his men to win so comfortably in the end.
E.Frankfurt will be desperately trying to avoid looking at the recent results when they’ve faced Bayern Munich. 6 defeats in a row and they’ve failed to score in each loss. They managed a 1-1 draw back in April 2011 but in the past 14 meetings they’ve lost 13 and drawn 1. Bayern are unsurprisingly dominating the possession stats this season averaging 72% possession after their first 10 Bundesliga games with pass accuracy of 89.3%.Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller have contributed 23 of 33 league goals for Munich this year and with E.Frankfurt keeping just 1 clean sheet they have their work cut out.
Robben made his comeback after injuring his groin on international duty at the start of September whilst Kingsley Coman also returned against Koln after picking up an injury with France U21’s. Mario Gotze, Medhi Benatia and Franck Ribery continue to be out through injury. E.Frankfurt have no new injury concerns to deal with but Slobodan Medojevic could be handed a start after impressing when coming on against Hannover.
