Despite sitting next to each other in the German Bundesliga, the past 4 matches for the 2 sides couldn’t be much more contrasting. Eintracht Frankfurt are winless in their last 4 and have scored just 1 goal in the process whilst Borussia Monchengladbach have won 3 out of 4, scored 10 and only just lost to Manchester City in the Champions League having taken the lead against the English giants. ‘Gladbach’s last victory over Wolfsburg was a flashback of their performances last year which helped them finish in 3^rd place and secured an automatic Champions League place.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s current slump is one they’ll hope the international break will see them bounce back with vengeance as after the previous international break at the start of September, they came back and trounced Koln 6-2 but since that victory the poor run has started. Armin Veh will be determined to reproduce the performances in the opening few weeks of the season. ‘Gladbach have been transformed under new manager Andre Schubert who stepped up from the U23 ‘Gladbach set up to take over Lucien Favre who resigned after suffering 5 straight Bundesliga defeats. He had only been in that role for a few months but the directors clearly saw enough in him to give him the first team squad responsibilities and so far he’s impressed in his opening month. After scoring just 2 goals in their opening 6 matches, Schubert has restored some confidence in their attacking approach which has contributed in their last 3 Bundesliga matches which they’ve won all by 2 clear goals.

The fans at the Commerzbank-Arena will be hoping for a much better spectacle than when these 2 sides last met in a dismal 0-0 that would’ve been forgotten very quickly by both sets of supporters. Brazilian centre forward Raffael has enjoyed 2 prolific seasons in Germany since arriving from Dynamo Kyiv but has struggled in the 2015/2016 campaign with just 1 goal but does have 5 assists to his name. Neither side has yet drawn this season.

‘Gladbach received bad news during the international break as they played a friendly against Duisburg to keep the players who weren’t in action for their countries ticking over but Nico Schulz faces months on the side lines after suffering a serious knee injury which requires surgery. Yann Sommer also suffered a broken nose against Manchester City but despite battling on, he has missed ‘Gladbach’s last 2 games and also missed the Euro 2016 qualifiers for Switzerland.
