It will be the first ever meeting between these 2 sides in the German Bundesliga with the 4 times they have met in the German 2.Bundesliga. Ingolstadt have been in fine form following their promotion last year and have been known to be strong on their travels but they suffered their first away defeat to Stuttgart on Sunday after missing a penalty in the opening 5 minutes. Given their struggles trying to create opportunities the penalty that fell their way early in the Stuttgart game was imperative that they took full advantage of it but the miss proved costly as they went on to lose 1-0.
Hertha BSC missed the chance to leapfrog over Schalke and into the Champions League places after a 2-1 defeat to Schalke. They held on valiantly with 10 men but a cruel 92nd minute for Schalke sealed Hertha’s fate and handed them their 3rd Bundesliga defeat of the season. Hertha are on their journeys again with Ingolstadt not particularly prolific at home with just 1 win from 4 league games. Pal Dardai is the current caretaker coach of Hertha and he’ll be delighted despite the latest defeat with how the season has panned out after last season’s 15th finish. Dardai will also be content with Per Skjelbred who looked like he was set for a spell out after sustaining an injury on international duty for Norway but he completed the 90 minutes against Schalke.
Ingolstadt and Hertha share the exact game records for the season and recent form with 14 points to their names and 7 points from their last 5 games. Just 3 goals separate them and despite only conceding 7 goals in 9 league matches, Ingolstadt are the lowest scorers in the league with 6. Ingolstadt are still riding the crest of the wave following promotion and despite sitting in 8th, they’ll be aiming to avoid relegation this season and anything on top of that will be an added bonus.
The home side have no injury concerns but may wish to alter certain players after their latest defeat to Stuttgart who were rock bottom before the game commenced on Sunday. Hertha will be without joint top goal scorer Vedad Ibisevic who was sent off against Schalke and must now serve a 3 match ban. His absence could well have a negative impact on Solomon Kalou who has had a successful partnership upfront with Ibisevic and must now cope without his strike partner against Ingolstadt, FSV Frankfurt and Borussia Monchengladbach.
