Hannover’s win at Koln was covered in controversy as their 1-0 win came courtesy of a winner from Leon Andreason who bundled in a corner with his hand that was missed by the officials and proved the decisive incident in settling the game. It helped take Hannover out of the bottom 3 for only the 2nd time this season and was also their 2nd league win of the season. It is now back-to-back 1-0 victories for Hannover after wins against Werder Bremen and now Koln. They’ll fancy their chances against Eintracht Frankfurt who have gradually slipped down the table after 2 points from their last 5 games. Hannover were being written off after gaining just 1 point from their first 6 league games but have showed signs of a revival in recent weeks.
Eintracht Frankfurt are in freefall after their worst result of the season and in front of their own fans. Borussia Monchengladbach were one of the last teams to beat Frankfurt on their own patch back in October 2014 and went almost a year undefeated at home but suffered a humiliating 5-1 defeat to Monchengladbach on Saturday. After scoring 6 past Koln in September they’ve scored just 2 goals in 5 matches since and are in a real bad patch of form. Despite going into the half time interval level at 1-1, a disastrous second half saw them ship 4 goals with the 3 substitutions in the second half not having the desired effect.
Frankfurt won’t take any satisfaction from their next opponents as they’ve defeated Hannover just once in their previous 9 attempts, losing 6 of them. They’ve failed to score in 3 of their 5 away league matches this year but Hannover concede on average 2 goals per game at home in the league. Alexander Meier was prolific last season scoring 19 goals for Frankfurt and already has 5 to his name this campaign but Meier who is entering his 12th season at Frankfurt will need his team mates to contribute if they’re going to turn their form around.
Haris Seferovic returned for Frankfurt after his latest setback but was ineffective against ‘Gladbach. Frankfurt have no other injury concerns and have a full squad to select from ahead of the trip to Hannover. Kenan Karaman had to come off after just 17 minutes through injury in the win over Koln and the 21-year old will be out of contention against Frankfurt.
