Hertha BSC managed to grasp a 2nd away victory of the season with a narrow victory over Ingolstadt whilst Borussia Monchengladbach had a superb 3-1 victory at home to 3rd placed Schalke.

Hertha’s 3 defeats this season had all come away from home in the Bundesliga but having only beaten Augsburg on their travels prior to the visit to Ingolstadt; they can now add them to the list. These 2 sides were the biggest surprise packages of this season with Hertha sitting as high as 5th whilst newly promoted Ingolstadt were 7th. It was always going to be a low scoring affair with Ingolstadt involved in just 13 goals in 9 league matches this season and an early goal from Mitchell Weiser proved the difference despite a lot of pressure applied from Ingolstadt. Hertha stood firm and bounced back from last week’s heartache of conceding all 3 points in injury time to Schalke and showed tremendous resolve to hold onto the win. Pal Dardai’s side have now accumulated 17 points after 10 matches which is just 1 less than what they managed last year after 19 league matches.

‘Gladbach had a magnificent draw in the Champions League midweek to last year’s finalists, Juventus. It was their 1st point in the competition and with 2 home games left to play in the group, the Germans will still feel optimistic that they can launch a late siege and try and qualify for the Europa League at least. Gladbach’s dominance in the 1st half eventually rewarded them with the lead but they were pegged back just before half time. But Brazilian forward Raffael scored his first free kick in 6 years to put them back ahead before a final nail in the coffin 5 minutes from time was applied when Julian Jorb scored to give Gladbach a deserved victory. The game was overshadowed by a horrible incident suffered to Andre Hahn who was on the end of an outrageous tackle from Johannes Geis who was immediately sent off and been handed a 5 match suspension.

After winning just 6 of 17 home league matches last season, Hertha have already won 3 out of 4 this season at the OlympiaStadion. Gladbach were one of the many teams to come away from Hertha with a win and they’ve also won the last 4 meetings against Hertha. Raffael has scored 4 goals and 6 assists in his last 5 appearances and the 31-year old is in fine form. The OlympiaStadion also brings the best out of Hertha as they’ve picked up just 2 of their 16 yellow cards at home whilst the 2 red cards they’ve received have also been away. Gladbach have scored the joint most set pieces (5) this season whilst Hertha boast the 2nd worst aerial challenges record in the Bundesliga at home, losing 32.5% of their aerial duals.

Vedad Ibisevic will be out through suspension as he serves the final game of his 3rd match ban against Gladbach. Niklas Stark’s debut season for Hertha was interrupted with an injury earlier in October and the former Nuremburg midfielder will remain out of contention. The injury to Andre Hahn is believed to be a tibial plateau fracture and lateral meniscuses tear in his left knee and will rule him out for a few months.
