Next Wednesday, 21st September 2016, an ultra confident Barcelona will take on a somewhat rejuvenated Atlético Madrid at Camp Nou in Catalonia for Round 5 of La Liga Santander.
The home defeat against Deportivo Alavés has sounded the alarm at Camp Nou and after that major upset, Barcelona embarked on a goal scoring spree netting 12 goals and conceding only one in two competitive matches. Celtic were the first ones to taste Barcelona’s infuriated comeback, leaving Catalonia with a heavy 7-0 defeat on their bags.
Last weekend, Barça traveled to Madrid to measure forces with CD Leganés at Estadio Municipal de Butarque and imposed a 5-1 defeat unto them. Luis Enrique’s men had an extremely solid first-half performance and were already winning 3-0 before the break.
After returning winning ways at La Liga last weekend, Barcelona have an extremely important test against Atlético Madrid on Wednesday. The Catalan outfit need a win in order to close the point gap to Real Madrid, but they will surely need to dig very deep in order to claw the three points.
With André Gomes and ter Stegen already back in action, there aren’t currently any names at Barcelona’s injury list.
As for Atlético Madrid, after their underachieving season start, the Colchoneros pulled off an extremely solid performance against Sporting de Gijón last weekend to win by 5-0. A brace by the usual suspect Antoine Griezmann and another by Fernando Torres were enough to put an end on the Asturian team undefeated streak.
Atlético’s poor season start has stirred up things at Vicente Calderón, but the truth is that Diego Simeone’s men have only conceded one goal in four league matches so far and have scored nine goals in their last two outings.
Tiago, Moya and Alessio Cerci are still recovering from their respective injuries and will miss next Wednesday’s visit to Barcelona.
