Next Friday, 26th August 2016, Deportivo de La Coruña will visit Andalusia to measure forces with Real Betis at Benito Villamarín for the second round of La Liga Santander.
Former Uruguayan international Gustavo Poyet didn’t have the best of days during his debut as Real Betis manager at La Liga, since his team succumbed to the all-powerful FC Barcelona at Camp Nou last time out. A heavy 6-2 defeat was a severe punishment for the Andalusia team, who managed to withstand the home side’s attacking avalanche until the last moments of the first-half when two goals in just five minutes offered FC Barcelona a comfortable 3-1 lead before the break.
Didier Digard, due to personal reasons, and Rafa Navarro, because of a calf injury, missed Real Betis visit to Camp Nou last Saturday and remain doubts for the upcoming match against Depor. On the other hand, French youth international, Jonas Martin, who suffered a serious ankle injury last time out, will be sidelined at least until September.
As for Deportivo de La Coruña, the Galician team started the new season off on the right foot overcoming SD Eibar by 2-1 at Riazor.
Manager Gaizka Garitano managed to claw a perfect season start at the helm of his new club, but it wasn’t by any means an easy match for the home side, who only scored the winning goal three minutes before the end thanks to a goal by Lucas Pérez from the penalty spot.
Gaizka Garitano fielded newcomers Bruno Gama, Raúl Albentosa, Guilherme and Carles Gil for the starting XI, while Romanian international Florin Andone came in as a substitute during the second-half. Colombian wonderboy Marlos Moreno has only began working with his new teammates last week, but he might be part of Garitano’s list for next Friday’s fixture. Marlos is currently on loan from Manchester City.
The 41-year old manager will, according to recent reports, have all the players at his disposal for the usually complicated visit to Benito Villamarin next Friday, since at the moment, there aren’t any names in the team’s injury list.
