Next Wednesday, 21st September 2016, an extremely fragilized Celta de Vigo will measure forces with Sporting de Gijón at Los Balaídos in Galicia for Round 5 of La Liga Santander.

After their midweek draw at Belgium against Royal Standard Liège, Celta de Vigo failed to claw their first win of the new season when they visited Pamplona last Sunday. Los Celestes have controlled the match for at least 75 minutes and they did deserve more than a goalless draw against an opponent that only placed two shots on goal throughout the entire match. Celta de Vigo are currently fishing for points after having only grabbed one point from four matches. The upcoming fixture against Sporting de Gijón is of the utmost importance for them in order to put an end on this underachieving streak of results.

Carles Planes, Claudio Beauvue and Fabian Orellana are still recovering from their respective injuries and will miss out there.

As for Sporting de Gijón, the Asturian team saw their undefeated streak being completely crushed during last weekend’s visit to Vicente Calderón. Sporting de Gijón failed to cope with Atlético Madrid’s attacking avalanche in the first 35 minutes of the match and ended leaving the Spanish capital city with a painful 5-0 defeat.

Despite last round’s negative result, Abelardo Fernández’s men are showing some great football as they did last season and they will certainly give Celta a hard day on the job when they visit Galicia next Wednesday.

Croatian forward Duje Cop is still struggling with a muscle injury and is in doubt for the upcoming match at Los Balaidos.
