Next Saturday, 12th of September 2015, an extremely moralized Atlético Madrid will entertain the current Spanish champions, Barcelona, at Vicente Calderón for Round 3 of the Liga BBVA.
Atlético Madrid started the new campaign with an unconvincing and narrow home win over the newcomers of UD Las Palmas but managed to make amends in their travel to Sevilla almost two weeks ago.
Diego Simeone’s men put up a solid overall performance and granted a convincing 3-0 win with goals from Koke, Gabi and an astonishing one from the new summer signing Jackson Martinez. The Colombian sharpshooter, who scored almost 100 goals for FC Porto over the last three campaigns, started the Sanchez Pizjuan match at the bench. On the 78th minute, Jackson replaced Fernando Torres and seven minutes later sentenced the match with a fantastic scorcher from outside the box.
Sevilla proved once again to be fairly inconsistent back in defence and the Colchoneros knew how to make the best from that. Simeone didn’t change much of his usual 4-4-2 system and it is not likely that he will perform any major changes for next weekend’s clash against the all-powerful Barcelona. Atlético Madrid were defeated every time they played against the Catalan team last season and Diego Simeone is certainly looking to revive their glorious moments from the 2013-14 season with his team, in order to take something positive out of next Saturday’s clash.
As for Barcelona, the Catalan team has failed to impress so far this season. After losing the Spanish Super Cup to Athletic Bilbao, Barça have only managed to grab two narrow 1-0 wins against the Basque team once again and over Málaga two weeks ago at Camp Nou.
Luis Enrique’s men are having a slow start this season, but that certainly doesn’t mean that they are worst than last term.
For the Vicente Calderón match, the Asturian manager is not yet certain if he will be able to rely on the contribution of Dani Alves and Sergi Roberto, who are still recovering from their respective injuries. The Spanish centre-back Pique will also miss the match due to suspension.
