Next Saturday, 23th of April 2016, title contenders Atlético Madrid will entertain Málaga at the emblematic Vicente Calderón for Round 35 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
After hammering Granada at Madrid last weekend, Atlético didn’t fall short of expectations when they visited San Mamés back on Wednesday and won the match by 1-0. A first-half goal by a rejuvenated Fernando “El Niño” Torres allowed Atlético to claw the three points and to clinch their 25th win of the season. It wasn’t, nevertheless, an easy match for Los Colchoneros, who saw Uruguayan defender Diego Godín substituted early in the match due to injury. The experienced centre back will almost certainly miss the upcoming important fixture against Sporting de Gijón. The other Atlético’s Uruguayan defender José Giménez and the Portuguese defensive midfielder Tiago are also likely to miss out there due to injury. The Colchoneros’ captain Gabi is, on the other hand, back in the team, after missing last Wednesday’s match due to suspension.
As for Málaga, the Andalusian team didn’t manage to get anything better than a draw against Rayo Vallecano at La Rosaleda last time out. An injury time goal by the Uruguayan defender Federico Ricca allowed Los Boquerones to rescue a point against an extremely complicated opponent that was just minutes away from clawing an impressive win at La Rosaleda.
Málaga have failed to win any of their last four league matches and they will surely struggle to pick up a positive result from their visit to the Spanish capital next Saturday.
Juan Carlos and Carlos Kameni are still recovering from their respective injuries and remain in doubt for the Andalusia team’s next outing.
Los Boquerones are currently on the ninth place of La Liga’s table and benefited from Real Sociedad and SD Eibar’s slipups to secure their position in the league table. Despite the negatives, Javi Gracia keeps doing a meritorious work at the helm of the Andalusia team and will eventually secure a place among La Liga’s top ten teams.
