Next Saturday, 30th of April 2016, title contenders Atlético Madrid will measures forces with their neighbours and rivals Rayo Vallecano at Vicente Calderón for Round 36 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
After their midweek win at Bilbao in the middle of the week, Atlético Madrid didn’t have the best of times when they hosted Málaga last Saturday. Despite playing home, in front of their enthusiastic fans, Atlético Madrid only managed to claw a narrow 1-0 win thanks to an Ángel Correa goal in the second-half of the match. The talented Argentinean forward fired a scorcher from outside the box that, after a slight defection on Albentosa’s leg, ended up inside Ochoa’s net. Atlético Madrid had several other good chances to score in the second-half of the match, but it was the visitors who almost clawed the equalizer when Juanpi shot went very near Jan Oblak’s left post.
For the upcoming complicated match against Rayo Vallecano, Diego Simeone, who could be facing a three-match ban from the touchline after being sent off at half-time when a ball was thrown on to the pitch from the technical area, is probably still not be able to rely on the services of Diego Godín, who remains sidelined due to injury. The Portuguese defensive midfielder Tiago is back in training and might make his return next weekend.
Before next weekend's Madrid derby, Atlético will still measure forces with the all-powerful Bayern Munich at Vicente Calderón next Wednesday.
As for Rayo Vallecano, the Franjirrojos put up a splendid first-half performance against Real Madrid last weekend and might consider themselves unlucky for not having had at least a point within their grasp.
Rayo opened the score very early in the match when Adri Embarba sent home a great assist by the Portuguese winger Bebe and just seven minutes later doubled their lead by the Venezuelan forward Miku, who took advantage from a lost ball inside Real Madrid’s box and fired it to Keylor Navas’ net.
Rayo have already visited Vicente Calderón early this season on a Copa del Rey match back in January and were defeated by 3-0 being eliminated from the competition. The Madrid outskirts team is not yet safe from relegation and a defeat next Saturday might throw them into the relegation pit. For that particular match, Paco Jémez will still not be able to rely on the services of Toño, Cobeño, Raul Baena and Ebert, who remain sidelined due to injury.
