Next Sunday, 25th of October 2015, Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid will measure forces with Valencia at Vicente Calderón for Round 9 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
Although Atlético Madrid’s recent performances have been far from impressive, Los Colchoneros have not experienced any major obstacles to overcome the modest FC Astana from Kazakhstan last Wednesday’s night. After a major home upset against SL Benfica, Atlético returned to wins at the UEFA Champions League and now share the lead of Group C with the Portuguese team.
Last weekend, Los Colchoneros sealed a very important win during their visit to Anoeta. It wasn’t by any means an easy match, but Antoine Griezmann’s early goal and Real Sociedad poor finishing skills up front allowed Atlético to claim the three points in their visit to the Basque Country. Diego Simeone’s men have been far from impressive at La Liga so far and have already been defeated twice in the eight matches they took part in.
The Argentinean forward Luciano Vietto remains sidelined due to injury and will not be part of Diego Simeone’s plans for next weekend’s clash.
As for Valencia, Los Che are having a fairly modest performance at La Liga so far and Nuno Espirito Santo, who was the supporters’ pet last season, is now seeing his work put into question by a large deal of fans.
After a painful defeat at San Mamés against Athletic Bilbao, Valencia seem to have rallied the troops and managed to win their last two matches. A solid home win over Málaga last time out and an extremely complicated win against KAA Gent for the UEFA Champions League in the middle of the week have certainly injected some extra motivation in the players, who will have an extremely complicated task to carry out at Vicente Calderón over the weekend.
The Australian goalkeeper Mathew Ryan, the team’s vice-captain Diego Alves and the Tunisian defender Aymen Abdennour are still recovering from their respective injuries and will most certainly miss their team’s travel to Madrid.
