Next Sunday, 14th of February 2016, the league leaders, Barcelona, will measure forces with a slightly inconsistent Celta de Vigo at the emblematic Camp Nou for the last match of Round 24 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
The clash between the Blaugranas and Celta de Vigo will definitely be the most important match of the weekend, mostly because of what both teams have in common and due to the result of their last match at Los Balaídos. Back in September, Los Celestes hammered Barcelona at Galicia by 4-1 and literally provided a true football lesson to the current Spanish champions. Luis Enrique, who was Celta’s head coach before joining Barcelona, acknowledged the Galician superiority back then, but he is certainly hoping to have his revenge next Sunday. Luis Enrique’s Barça is on a fantastic streak of 30 undefeated matches and, early this week, they have granted a place in the Copa del Rey final, where they will face Sevilla, who eliminated Celta de Vigo at Los Balaídos last Thursday.
Last weekend, Barcelona had to dig deep in order to overcome Levante at the Comunidad Valenciana, but a first-half own goal by David Navarro and a last minute goal by Luis Suárez were enough to break the Granotes’ resistance.
For next Sunday’s match against Celta, Luis Enrique is not yet certain if he will be able to rely on services of the Argentinean number 10, Lionel Messi, who is still recovering from illness. Rafinha, who is still undergoing treatment for his cruciate ligament injury will definitely miss out there.
As for Celta de Vigo, the Galician team is definitely not going through the best of moments after having failed to win any of their last four competitive matches. After their last minute defeat at Gran Canaria against UD Las Palmas, Celta didn’t manage to get anything better than a draw against Sevilla last weekend. To make things worse for them, Los Celestes were also eliminated from Copa del Rey this week, once again at the expense of Sevilla.
For next weekend’s complicated visit to Camp Nou, Eduardo Berizzo will not be able to rely on the services of Fabian Orellana, Iago Aspas, Sergi Gomez and Theo Bongonda, who are all currently sidelined due to suspension. Nolito, who is still recovering from his long term injury, will most certainly miss out there.
