Next Saturday, 2nd of April 2016, Luis Enrique’s super Barcelona will measure forces with Real Madrid at the emblematic Camp Nou for Round 31 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
Marcelino Toral’s Villarreal managed to put an end to Barcelona’s splendid winning streak last time out after holding the Catalan team to a draw at El Madrigal. Luis Enrique’s men had a two goal lead in the first-half, with Rakitic and Neymar scoring for the Blaugranas, but the Submarino Amarillo put up a spectacular performance after the break, netting two goals in just seven minutes, thus interrupting Barça’s impressive streak of nine consecutive wins. Barcelona had, as usual, from more ball possession percentage, but it was the home side who made more goal attempts and who were closer to score the winning goal in the second-half. The Catalan team appeared to be slightly laid back after the break and paid the price for that.
Barcelona enjoy from a comfortable 10-point advantage over Real Madrid before next weekend’s El Clásico and not even a defeat out would will jeopardize the Catalan team’s league leadership. For next Saturday’s big derby, Luis Enrique is not yet certain if he will be able to rely on the services of Busquets, Iniesta and Rakitic, who are still recovering from a minor injury. Sandro is dealing with an hamstring injury and he will miss out there.
As for Real Madrid, after their narrow win at the Canary Islands against UD Las Palmas, Los Blancos put up solid display to overcome Sevilla at Santiago Bernabéu last time out.
Benzema, Ronaldo, Bale and Jese scored for Real Madrid to grant them their twentieth win of the season, on a match that could have had a different outcome if Kevin Gameiro had scored from the penalty spot in the first-half, when the home side was only leading by 1-0.
For next weekend’s important derby, Real Madrid’s head coach, Zinedine Zidane, is not yet certain if he will be able to rely on the contribution from Sergio Ramos, who is struggling with an injury on his back.
Casemiro, Varane, Danilo and Lucas Vazquez are on the verge of suspension and if they pick up a yellow card out there, they will miss Real Madrid’s upcoming match.
