Next Sunday, 28th of February 2016, a super motivated Barcelona will measure forces with a mighty Sevilla at Camp Nou for Round 26 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
Last Saturday, the league leaders, Barcelona, experienced some unexpected difficulty in overcoming a mighty and hard working UD Las Palmas at Estadio Gran Canaria. The islanders put up a solid performance and forced Barça to remain alert until the final whistle.
The Catalan team’s usual suspect, Luis Suárez, opened the score very early in the match but the home side pulled one back just four minutes later by the Brazilian wonder boy Willian José.
It was a frantic match and, before the break, Barcelona scored the winning goal by Neymar and clawed their 20th win of the season.
In the middle of the week, Luis Enrique’s men travelled to London to take on Arsenal for the first-leg of the 1/8 finals of the UEFA Champions League and once again the team didn’t fall short of expectations. Barcelona won the match by 2-0 and virtually secured a place in the next stage of the competition as it is not likely that Arsenal manage to claw something positive from their second-leg match at Camp Nou.
For next weekend’s important clash against Sevilla, Luis Enrique will have almost his entire squad at disposal, with the exception of Rafinha, who remains sidelined due to a serious cruciate ligament injury.
As for Sevilla, the Andalusia team suffered a major setback on their visit to Vallecas last time out. Los Sevillistas scored two goals in just 20 minutes and were somewhat comfortable in the match until the Angolan powerful forward Manucho pulled one back for Rayo Vallecano just before half-time. Unai Emery’s men felt the pressure and allowed Rayo to claw the equalizer in the second-half by the usual suspect Miku, who sent home an assist by Bebe.
In the middle of the week, Sevilla travelled to Norway for the second-leg of the 1/16 finals of the Europa League and they failed to replicate the good result they have obtained at Ramon Sánchez Pizjuán last week, losing the match by 1-0. Nevertheless, the 3-0 win from the first-leg allowed the Andalusia team to walk through the next stage of the competition.
