Next Saturday, 2nd of April 2016, Celta de Vigo and Deportivo de La Coruña will measure forces at Los Balaídos for Round 31 of the Spanish Liga BBVA at the highly anticipated Galician derby.

Celta de Vigo managed to walk through the humiliating defeat at Santiago Bernabéu early this month and they are now on a good run with two consecutive wins in their last two matches.

After a complicated home win over Real Sociedad, Los Celestes clawed a spectacular victory on their visit to Mestalla before the international break. A top class performance, especially in the second-half, and a 2-0 win coronated a well organized Celta de Vigo that have once again exposed all of Valencia’s structural frailties. Two goals in the last ten minutes of the match were enough to inflict the twelfth defeat of the season to an inconsistent Valencia that are just six points above the relegation zone. A splendid goal by the versatile Swedish striker John Guidetti and another one, four minutes later, by the Spanish right back Hugo Mallo allowed the Galician team to achieve their fourteenth win of the current campaign and to change places with Sevilla at the fifth place of the league table.

The upcoming match against Deportivo de La Coruña, which is also known as “O Noso Derbi”, will certainly be a very close one, but Los Celestes are hoping to avenge last time’s defeat at Riazor. For next Saturday’s match, Eduardo Berizzo will not be able to rely on the services of Andreu Fontás, Marcelo Diaz, Nestor and Pablo Hernández, who remain sidelined due to injury. Iago Aspas, who is still recovering from a strain, is in doubt out there.

As for Deportivo de La Coruña, the Galician team has finally managed to return to wins last time out against Levante after a fairly unimpressive streak of negative results. An unfortunate own goal by Levante’s goalkeeper Diego Mariño allowed Depor to claw the three points on what was a very close match at Riazor before the international break. Luis Alberto opened the score for the home side in the first-half, but a moment of pure inspiration by the versatile Italian forward Giuseppe Rossi granted Levante the equalizer right after the break.

For the upcoming Galician derby, Depor’s head coach Victor Sánchez will not be able to rely on the services of Manuel Pablo and Federico Cartabia, who are still part of the team’s injury list.
