Next Saturday, 16th of January 2016, a somewhat fragilized Celta de Vigo will measure forces with Levante at Los Balaídos for Round 20 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.

Without Nolito, currently injured, and Augusto Fernández, who joined Atlético Madrid last week, Celta de Vigo conceded their third consecutive defeat at La Liga last Sunday in the match against Los Colchoneros. Eduardo Berizzo’s men failed to cope with the precision of Atlético Madrid’s game style and they left behind, once again, a very poor image of themselves.

Celta didn’t produce many goal chances and their attacking game was quite ineffective. The absence of Nolito up front exposed the team’s vulnerabilities on the last third of the pitch. Next weekend’s match against Levante is of the utmost importance for Los Celestes and a win is almost mandatory. Before that important clash, however, Celta will take on Cádiz CF for the second-leg of the 1/8 finals of the Copa del Rey at Los Balaídos.

Andreu Fontas is still undergoing treatment for his Achilles’ tendon injury and he will surely miss out there.

As for Levante, the Comunidad Valenciana team keeps struggling at the bottom of the table even after last round’s win over Rayo Vallecano. The Granotes put up, nevertheless, an extremely solid performance against the Vallecas team and, in just nine minutes, they managed to put an end to their already long winless streak. A goal by the versatile Brazilian forward Deyverson and another one after a spectacular effort by José Luis Morales granted Levante the much needed three points. Rayo Vallecano still managed to pull one back by Pablo Hernández in the last minutes of the match, but it was already too late to get back in the match and they ended up conceding their twelfth defeat of the season.

After their good display at Vicente Calderón, Rubi’s team showed again that they are improving as the matches go by and they will certainly try to cause Celta a major upset next weekend.

The Spanish midfielder José Mari is still recovering from his injury and he will miss his team’s travel to Vigo.
