Next Saturday, 12th of March 2016, a somewhat fragilized Celta de Vigo will measure forces with Real Sociedad at Los Balaídos for Round 29 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
It is hard to describe what happened to Celta de Vigo at Santiago Bernabéu last Saturday’s afternoon. The Galician team put up a solid performance in the first-half of the match but Pepe’s goal before the break opened breaches into Eduardo Berizzo’s strategy. In the second-half, Celta de Vigo struggled to cope with Real Madrid’s attacking avalanche and ended defeated by 7-1. Four goals by Portuguese sharpshooter Cristiano Ronaldo have sunk the Galician vessel, imposing them their tenth defeat of the current season. Iago Aspas netted Celta’s lonely goal at Bernabéu last weekend, a lovely lob over Keylor Navas on minute 62’.
The upcoming match against Real Sociedad will certainly not be an easy one for the Galician team, especially if we have in mind that the last time the Basque team succumbed at Los Balaídos was back in 2008, in a Copa del Rey match. For next Saturday’s fixture, Eduardo Berizzo will not be able to rely on the services of Fabian Orellana, who is currently suspended. Andreu Fontás and Pablo Hernández will also miss out there because of injury.
As for Real Sociedad, after four consecutive wins, the Basque team is once again back to their inconsistent record. The 3-0 defeat at Vicente Calderón has clearly caused some damage in the team, that failed to overcome a relegation threatened Levante at Anoeta a few days later. An early goal by the Mexican centre back Diego Reyes, who is on loan from FC Porto, wasn’t enough to defeat a mighty Levante, who snatched the equalizer just ten minutes later by the versatile Brazilian forward Deyverson.
After some turbulent times, Real Sociedad are now in the ninth place of La Liga’s table and almost safe from relegation.
For next weekend’s visit to Galicia, Eusebio Sacristan will not be able to rely on the contribution of Esteban Granero, who is currently suspended. Sergio Canales, who is out with a long term injury, will also miss out there.
