Next Sunday, 7th of February 2016, a super motivated Sevilla will travel to Galicia to measure forces with an inconsistent Celta de Vigo at Los Balaídos for Round 23 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
After last weekend’s major upset at Gran Canaria, where Celta de Vigo conceded their eighth defeat of the season at the expense of UD Las Palmas, Los Celestes suffered a major setback at Ramon Sánchez Pizjuán in the first-leg of the Copa del Rey semi-finals against Sevilla. The Galician team ended up defeated 4-0 and they have severely compromised their chances of booking a place in the tournament’s final.
After a shaky first-half performance, during which the young talented goalkeeper, Ruben Blanco, secured the goalless draw for a while, Celta conceded the first goal of the night just before the break, when Rami headed home a corner by Éver Banega.
Celta took some risks during the second-half and ended up paying the price for that. Several defensive mistakes allowed Sevilla to score three goals and almost grant a place in the tournament’s final. Kevin Gameiro, who missed a penalty in the first-half, had his revenge after the break by scoring Sevilla’s second and third goals of the night.
Celta’s head coach, Eduardo Berizzo, will certainly need to put up something very special in order to motivate his players for next Sunday’s match, where he will not be able to rely on the contribution of Hugo Mallo and Fabian Orellana, who are both suspended. Nolito, on the other hand, is back in training, but it remains uncertain if he will be taking part in the match.
As for Sevilla, the Andalusia team is going through an impressive moment and last Thursday’s win over Celta is the living proof of that.
Last weekend, Sevilla have smashed Levante at Ramon Sánchez Pizjuán by 3-1 and benefited from Celta de Vigo’s defeat at Gran Canaria to climb some places in the league table.
For next weekend’s visit to Galicia, Sevilla’s head coach, Unai Emery, will not be able to rely on the services of Marco Andreolli and Grzegorz Krychowiak, who are both sidelined due to injury.
