Next Sunday, 1st of May 2016, a Getafe fishing for points will visit Galicia to measure forces with Deportivo de La Coruña at the emblematic Estadio Riazor for Round 36 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
Juan Esnaider is back in the dugout to try to save Getafe from being relegated and so far, the former Argentinean sharpshooter have managed to claw four points from three matches, which might not seem much, but it is considerably more that the miserable two points Fran Escriba grabbed out of 36 possible before he got sacked.
After losing to Real Madrid at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez on his debut as Getafe’s head coach, Juan Esnaider managed to rally troops and clawed a spectacular 2-1 win at Anoeta over Real Sociedad and held Valencia to a draw when both sides met at Madrid last weekend.
Getafe have changed significantly after Esnaider’s arrival and the football they currently display is far different from what they used to do on Fran Escriba’s days. Last time out against Valencia, Los Azulones probably deserved to claw the three points, but the best they got was a 2-2 draw on a match where they placed 11 shots on goal and created no more, no less, than 18 goal attempts. A late goal by the usual suspect Paco Álcacer has denied Juan Esnaider’s men the possibility of clawing the three points, but they will surely go for it when they visit Riazor next Sunday. For that particularly important match, the Argentinean manager will not be able to rely on Álvaro Pereira and Roberto Lago, who are both sidelined due to injury.
As for Deportivo de La Coruña, the former Spanish powerhouse is not going through the best of moments at La Liga and have failed to win any of their last five competitive matches. An overwhelming 8-0 defeat against Barcelona at Riazor in the middle of last week have certainly shaken Depor’s fragile structure, but the Galician team managed to lift their head and clawed a 1-1 draw on their visit to Ipurua last weekend.
Depor have 39 points and are not yet safe from relegation. A defeat against Getafe would certainly place them in perilous situation at the league table. For that extremely important match Victor Sánchez will still not be able to rely on the contribution of German Lux, since the experienced Argentinean goalkeeper is not yet fully recovered from the injury he suffered at Los Balaídos.
