Next Saturday, 14th of May 2016, title contenders Real Madrid will visit Galicia to measure forces with Deportivo de La Coruña at the emblematic Riazor Stadium for the final day of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
On the last match of Arbeloa at Santiago Bernabéu, Real Madrid extended their winning streak after overcoming a mighty Valencia by 3-2. A brace by Cristiano Ronaldo, who had missed his team’s last league matches due to injury, paved the way for an important win that leaves the decision of La Liga’s title for the last round. Real Madrid were stronger in the first-half of the match with Cristiano Ronaldo opening the score for them on minute 26’. Before the break, Karim Benzema netted the second of the day, a somewhat controversial goal, since the Frenchman was in an offside position when Cristiano Ronaldo crossed the ball to the box in the attacking movement that originated Los Blancos’ goal.
On the second-half, Valencia were fairly more dangerous in front of goal and managed to get back in the game after Rodrigo’s goal on minute 55’. Ronaldo, however, managed to spoil Los Che’s intents and netted Real Madrid’s third goal just five minutes later. The Portuguese midfielder André Gomes pulled of a superb scorcher from outside the box to put Valencia back in the game once again, but there wasn’t enough time left and Real Madrid managed to claw the three points.
The upcoming match at Riazor is of the utmost importance for Los Blancos, who still nurture small chances of winning La Liga. A win against Depor would transform Real Madrid in the new Spanish champions if Barcelona fail to claw the three points during their visit to Granada. For such important match, Zinedine Zidane will not be able to rely on the services of Lucas Vazquez, who is currently sidelined due to injury.
As for Deportivo de La Coruña, the Galician team have finally found sanctuary from relegation after beating Villarreal at El Madrigal last weekend. Depor put an end to an extremely negative streak of results to defeat an opponent that was still slightly dazed after the elimination from the UEFA Europa Cup some days before. One goal from Fajr in the first-half and another from the usual suspect Lucas Pérez after the break helped Depor to return to winning ways and to grant a place at La Liga next season.
For the upcoming fixture against Real Madrid, Victor Sánchez will still not be able to rely on the services of German Lux and Juan Dominguez, who remain sidelined due to injury.
