Next Saturday, 5th of December 2015, an extremely inspired Deportivo de La Coruña will host an inconsistent Sevilla at the emblematic Riazor for Round 14 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
After winning the Derbi gallego against Celta de Vigo, Depor clawed a fantastic win from their visit to Gran Canaria last Saturday. The Galician team outclassed UD Las Palmas to grant a solid 2-0 win with goals from the usual suspect Lucas Pérez and Cani. Depor controlled the match by allowing their opponents to have more ball possession, while exploiting their defensive frailties and childish mistakes to obtain both their goals.
Victor Sánchez’s counter-attack strategy worked almost flawlessly and Deportivo de La Coruña could even have scored more goals. The Galician team secured their fifth win of the current season and they are now in the fifth place of the league table with the same amount of points of Villarreal and just three points behind their neighbours and all-time rivals of Celta de Vigo.
Before next weekend’s match against Sevilla, Depor will measure forces with second tier side UE Llagostera for the Copa del Rey 1/16 finals.
Costa Rican midfielder Celso Borges and Liverpool loanee Luis Alberto are currently sidelined due to injury and they are in doubt for next weekend’s match against Sevilla.
As for Sevilla, the Andalusia team have been pretty inconsistent so far this season and they currently occupy the 10th place of the league table with just 18 points from 13 matches.
After being slammed at San Sebastian by Real Sociedad two weeks ago, Sevilla succumbed at the expense of Borussia Moenchengladbach for the UEFA Champions League in the middle of the week. One way or another, Sevilla managed to pull themselves together and dispatched Valencia over the weekend, thus grabbing their fifth win of the season. Los Rojiblancos put up an excellent performance throughout the entire match but have only managed to score the winning goal after the break when Escudero sent home a superb assist from Éver Banega.
Before next weekend’s visit to Riazor, Unai Emery’s men will still measure forces with UD Logroñes for the Copa del Rey 1/16 finals.
