Next Sunday, 24th of January 2016, a somewhat fragilized Deportivo de La Coruña will measure forces with Gary Neville’s Valencia at Riazor for Round 21 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
Six draws in their last ten competitive matches was the best Deportivo de La Coruña managed to do over the last month and half. The Galician team has only won once out of those ten matches, when they hosted SD Eibar just before the Christmas period. Victor Sanchez’s men are desperate for a win and next weekend’s match against Valencia will be a good opportunity for them to return to winning ways.
Last Saturday, Depor hold Real Sociedad to a draw at Anoeta, clawing an important point that will certainly inject some motivation into the troops. Victor Sanchez opted for his usual counter-attack approach to the game and things worked well in the first-half as his team went to break winning by 1-0 thanks to a goal by the Andalusia born midfielder Luis Alberto, who is currently on loan from Liverpool. The Galician team didn’t manage, however, to hold their advantage and allowed Real Sociedad to level to score in the last fifteen minutes of the match.
For next Sunday’s important clash against Valencia, Victor Sanchez will still not be able to rely on the services of Fabri, who remains sidelined due to a long term injury. Federico Cartabia, Manu, Manuel Pablo and Jonathan Rodriguez, are still recovering from minor injuries and are in doubt out there.
As for Valencia, Gary Neville is still looking for his first league win at the helm of Los Che and next Sunday’s match will certainly not be an easy one for his team.
Valencia’s last league win was at Los Balaídos back in November still under the stewardship of Nuno Espirito Santo. The team’s recent record is far from being impressive and a win is almost mandatory for them to start climbing some places in the league table.
Last weekend, Valencia failed to get anything better than a 2-2 draw at Mestalla against Rayo Vallecano and might even consider themselves lucky, since the equalizer only arrived on the dying moments of match.
Diego Alves and Feghouli are still undergoing treatment for their respective injuries and they will miss out there.
Before next Sunday’s match, Valencia will take on UD Las Palmas for the Quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey and the outcome of that fixture could influence their next round’s performance.
