Next Sunday, 29th of November 2015, an inconsistent Real Madrid will travel to the Basque Country to measure forces with SD Eibar at Municipal Ipurua for Round 13 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
Last weekend, Real Madrid were literally ran over by their all-time rivals of Barcelona at Santiago Bernabéu. Los Merengues lost the match by 4-0 and put up an extremely poor and lacklustre performance against the current La Liga champions.
Rafa Benitez was the target of all criticism at the end of the match and the media claimed that some sort of players’ rebellion was taking place in the team’s locker room in order to remove the Spanish manager from the team’s helm.
Real Madrid managed, in a way, to make amends during their visit to the Ukraine in the middle of the week. Los Blancos overcame Mircea Lucescu’s Shakhtar Donetsk by 4-3 but conceded three goals in the last 15 minutes of the match. The Spanish team might consider themselves lucky after the final whistle, since that had the match lasted a few more minutes, the Ukrainian side would have probably managed to claw the equalizer.
For the upcoming predictably complicated trip to the Basque Country, Rafa Benitez will not be able to rely on the contribution of Isco, who is currently suspended, while Sergio Ramos, Varane and Marcelo, are also likely to miss the match due to injury.
As for SD Eibar, the Basque team is having an excellent season start so far with just two defeats from 12 matches. Los Armeros are currently in the 6th place of the league table and have an impressive record at Ipurua, where they have only been defeated by Atlético Madrid.
Last weekend, José Luis Mendilibar’s men clawed a valuable draw from their visit to El Madrigal and extended their undefeated run to the three matches. Sergi Enrich was the hero of the day after netting his team’s goal, his third so far this season.
Spanish midfielder Keko will miss next Sunday’s clash due to suspension, while Simone Verdi is in doubt out there because of injury problems.
