Next Sunday, 14th of February 2016, Atlético Madrid will travel to the outskirts of the Spanish capital to measure forces with Getafe at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez for Round 24 of the Liga BBVA.
Last Saturday was a good day for Atlético Madrid. The Colchoneros have not only returned to winning ways at La Liga, after overcoming SD Eibar at Vicente Calderón, but they managed to celebrate the fact that Fernando Torres reached his 100th goal with the team and of their head coach, Diego Pablo Simeone, reaching his 100th match at the helm of Atleti.
Nevertheless, it wasn’t an easy match for the Madrid team since SD Eibar proved once again that they are a fairly good side and opened the score just after the break. The Colchoneros pulled ranks and in just eight minutes netted two goals, thus completely changing the course of the match. Before the final whistle, there was still time for the former Liverpool’s and Chelsea’s forward Fernando Torres to score his 100th goal with Atleti and to establish a new personal record.
For next weekend’s Madrid derby against Getafe, Diego “El Cholo” Simeone will not be able to rely on services of Filipe Luis, who is currently suspended, and on Tiago and Augusto Fernández, who are still undergoing treatment for their respective injuries.
As for Getafe, the Azulones are currently on a very poor streak of results with three consecutive defeats that place them just five points above the relegation zone. Last weekend, Fran Escriba’s men put up another mediocre performance against Málaga at La Rosaleda and they ended up being heavily defeated by 3-0. At the end of the match, the Madrid’s team manager criticized his team’s performance and expressed his worries with the lack of consistency back in defence.
For next weekend’s complicated derby with Atlético Madrid, Fran Escriba will certainly be happy to know that the team’s “maestro” Pablo Sarabia is already fully recovered from his shoulder injury and he might be an option out there. On the other hand, Mehdi Lacen and Alvaro Pereira will miss the match at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez due to suspension.
