Next Sunday, 8th of May 2016, a super motivated Getafe will measure forces with Sporting de Gijón at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez for Round 37 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.

Getafe are a completely different team after Juan Esnáider’s arrival almost one month ago. With just one defeat in their last four competitive matches, Los Azulones are now on the final battle to avoid relegation with just two rounds to go until the end of the season.

After conceding a home draw to Valencia two weeks ago, Getafe clawed an impressive 2-0 win on their visit to Riazor last Sunday. One goal in the first-half by the team’s captain Pedro Léon, who has been of pivotal importance for the team after Juan Esnáider’s arrival, and a late goal by Carlos Vigaray allowed Los Azulones to claim the three points against a close contender on their quest to avoid relegation.

It wasn’t, nevertheless, an easy match for the Getafe, who saw Deportivo de La Coruña control the match for the first 30 minutes, but the excellent goal by Pedro Leónon minute 41’ have somehow fragilized the home side, who struggled to threaten Guaita’s goal after the break.

The upcoming clash against Sporting de Gijón will be of the utmost importance for both teams, but for Getafe in particular, who are playing at home against a close contender that is also struggling to avoid relegation. For that particular fixture, Juan Esnáider will most certainly still not be able to rely on the services of Álvaro Pereira and Roberto Lago, who remain sidelined due to injury.

As for Sporting de Gijón, the Asturian team managed to bounce back immediately after the heavy defeat they suffered at Camp Nou two weeks ago and overcame SD Eibar at El Molinón by 2-0 last time out.

Carmona and Menendez netted Abelardo Fernández’s men goals and helped Sporting de Gijón to claw their second win in the last three competitive matches. In fact, the Asturian team have clinched the exact same points of Getafe in the last four league outings and for that reason the upcoming fixture at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez is of paramount importance for both sides.

For the upcoming match at Madrid, Abelardo Fernández will not be able to rely on the services of Bernardo Espinosa, who is out for the season. Dani Ndi, who has been struggling with a knee injury, is in doubt out there.
