Next Sunday, 21st of February 2016, a moralized Valencia will travel to Andalusia to measure forces with Granada at Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes for Round 25 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
Gary Neville finally celebrated his first La Liga win at the helm of Valencia as Los Che managed to overcome Espanyol at Mestalla last time out. It was a frantic match with both teams in the pursuit of the three points, but in the end, it was the home side who clinched the win. Espanyol were, nevertheless, the ones who opened the score, when the Costa Rican defender Óscar Duarte headed home Burgui’s corner. Despite the negatives, Valencia’s players lifted their heads and in just six minutes netted two goals. The experienced Spanish international Álvaro Negredo grabbed the equalizer and five minutes later the Russian winger, Denis Cheryshev, headed home the winning goal after a good cross by Feghouli.
Next weekend’s match at Los Cármenes will surely be a complicated one for Valencia and although they have already won 3-0 for a Copa del Rey clash earlier this year, they should not expect a walk in the park next time out. For that particular match, Gary Neville, will probably still not be able to rely on the services of Abdenour, who remains sidelined due to injury.
As for Granada, the Andalusia team have extended their walk in the desert last time after losing to Real Sociedad at Anoeta by 3-0. A doblete by the Basque wonder boy Mikel Oyarzabal and a goal by the usual suspect, Jonathas de Jesus, inflicted the 14th defeat to Granada in 24 matches so far this season.
José Ramón Sandoval’s men need to pull rank if they want to escape the relegation zone of the league table and next weekend’s match against Valencia might present a good opportunity for them to start their recovery.
The Spanish defender and team’s captain Diego Mainz, who remains sidelined due to injury, will miss out there. Miguel Lopes, who missed Anoeta’s match due to suspension, will probably make his way back into the starting XI.
