Next Monday, 2nd May 2016, a Levante fishing for points will visit Andalusia to measure forces with Málaga at La Rosaleda for Round 36 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
In just nine days, Levante’s supporters experienced a mix of different feelings with their team’s performances and results. After overcoming Espanyol at Estadi Ciutat de Valencia, Levante were completely hammered on their important clash against Granada by 5-1 just a few days later. Such defeat was a huge blow to the team’s ambitions to avoid relegation this season, although it is still mathematically possible for them to continue at the Spanish top tier next term if they manage to win the three upcoming matches and their direct contenders fail to do the same.
Last weekend, the Granotes failed once again to claw the three points despite the two-goal advantage they had almost until the last minutes of the match. After Casadesus’ early goal in the first-half and Etxeixa’s own goal on minute 67’, everything seemed to be in place for Levante to return to winning ways last weekend, but the Comunidad Valenciana team allowed, against all the odds, Athletic to produce an heroic comeback and to score two goals in just a handful of minutes.
For the upcoming important match at Andalusia, Levante’s head coach Rubi will not be able to rely on the services of Lerma, who is currently suspended. Juanfran, who is struggling with a minor injury, is in doubt out there.
As for Málaga, the Andalusia put up a solid performance when they visited Vicente Calderón last weekend and might consider themselves unlucky for failing to at least claw a draw from that match. Málaga have only collected three points from the last five competitive matches and failed to win every single one of them. Before their visit to Madrid last weekend, Málaga were held to a draw by a mighty Rayo Vallecano at La Rosaleda in the middle of the week. An injury time goal by Ricca prevented Los Boquerones from conceding another defeat.
For the upcoming fixture against Levante, Javi Gracia will not be able to rely on the services of Recio and Weligton, who are both suspended, and of Juan Carlos, who remains sidelined due to injury.
