Next Saturday, 6th of February 2016, a strong willed UD Las Palmas will visit Madrid to measure forces with Rayo Vallecano at Campo de Fútbol de Vallecas for Round 23 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
After two consecutive defeats in just a few days, UD Las Palmas returned to winning ways when they hosted Celta de Vigo at Gran Canaria last weekend. Quique Sétien’s men showed once again that they are a solid team capable of lifting their heads when in a tight situation.
Los Amarillos, however, didn’t have the best of starts against Celta last round after conceding a goal very early in the match. Theo Bongonda’s goal didn’t pinch UD Las Palmas’ ambition and, before the break, Jonathan Viera clawed the equalizer from the penalty spot. The islanders were by far the best team throughout the match and the Willian José’s last minute goal brought some justice to the scoreboard.
For next round’s complicated match at Vallecas, Quique Sétien will still not be able to rely on the services of Javi Castellano, Hernan and Angel Montoro, who are all currently sidelined due to injury.
As for Rayo Vallecano, the Madrid based team are currently on a positive streak, after three matches without a single defeat. A 2-2 draw at Mestalla, a solid home win over Celta de Vigo and a valuable point clawed at Riazor are Rayo’s recent record, something that allowed them to keep their hopes of leaving the relegation zone any time soon alive.
Last Monday night, Paco Jémez’s men visited Galicia to take on Deportivo de La Coruña and their solid first-half performance allowed them to grant a 2-2 draw against an extremely complicated team such as Depor. The Venezuelan forward Miku and the talented Spanish midfielder Jozabed scored in Rayo’s last two matches and they are starting to take on a pivotal role in the team.
For next weekend’s fixture against UD Las Palmas, Paco Jémez will not able to count on the contribution of Razvan Rat, Toño, Cobeño, Patrick Ebert and Adrian Embarba, who are all still undergoing treatment for their respective injuries.
